Taking it to state
The volleyball team did a wonderful job this past year. They worked all season towards their goal of making it to the state tournament. They showed to all of us that when you set a goal and put the time and effort into accomplishing it dreams can come true.
Making it to state took all the way to the last game of the regular season and beyond. Playing Grand in a must win, the team played their best game of the season supported by the greatest home court crowd in 2A. That win allowed the team to play Grand once again, as both teams had identical region records, to make it State. The second game was held at South Sevier High School where the girls replicated their dominance by beating Grand in four sets, thereby making it state.
The team represented the school and themselves well at state. While they lost to Delta in the first round, they beat Maser Prep later to ensure that they played on the second day of the state tournament.
We are proud of the volleyball team and all their accomplishments. They demonstrated to all the true spirt of the wolf. Dedication, determination, and pride.

THE MENTAL SPORT
BY: TYLEN NELSON
Most people you ask do not find a joy or love for running, but those of us that run Cross Country do. Most people call us crazy or insane for this very reason, and I have to say, it's true.
A typical morning practice in the life a Cross Country runner starts at 5:15 am. When the alarm goes off you throw on your shorts, lace up your shoes, and are out the door by 5:45 and to the high school by 6. At 6 am Smith walks in and smiles. . . he always smiles. He walks in and says," Kay, ballerinas," then the warm up begins. The warm up ends as soon as it begins and we are off on another adventure through the back roads of Salina. Most morning runs are 3.2 miles, but can range anywhere from 1 to 6 miles.
"Our sport, is your sport's punishment."

Besides saying," Kay, ballerinas," every morning our coaches say a lot of fun things that make you hate them and love them at the exact same time. Every Wednesday you can expect to hear the enthusiastic shout," It's race day!," from Coach Kaylie. If you ever ask Smith how far you ran, he will reply,"About three miles," with the most devious smile on his face. These quotes are just a few things you can expect to hear from our beloved coaches, that make Cross Country that much better.
"If you don't come to run, then come for the bus rides," is a quote many of the runners share to their fellow classmates and friends. They share this to their friends because we have a lot fun on the way to our meets and I mean a lot of fun. There are many personalities on this team that when combined make a fun experience. Baylee Nelson, a senior, describes it as,"There are the cocky ones, the singers, the people who do homework, the flirters, and the hard workers." Combined these personalities can turn a bus into a dance club or karaoke night. Either way, the runners have the more fun on bus rides than the actual meets themselves.
"Cross Country is a mental sport and we are all insane."

After the fun times end the serious times begin and it is time to tighten the laces, throw of the sweats, and get your race face on. After arriving at our destination we survey the course, pin on our tags, and begin the process of warming up. Warming up at meets starts with what we call "Smith Spray". Smith Spray is an amazing muscle relaxing spray created by Coach Smith himself to cure side aches and to loosen all those tight muscles. After jogging and stretching for a while we are called to the starting line. And before you know it, the guns fires and your off on another adventure.
As the finish line appears you can expect to see our top runners, Ashlin Goble, Allison Wilkins, and Trevor Okerlund coming in at a minimum place of 20th and a maximum place of 1st. As a team, you can expect the girls to take 1st and the boys to take anywhere between 1st and 4th.
"To run fast, you must run fast."

The runners this year had a great season. It was a season full of great victories, fantastic bus rides, and the enjoyment of running with teammates. I send the Seniors my farewell and thank them for their commitment to the team. May I see all who ran this year, excluding the Seniors, next year so that we may enjoy many more happy bus rides.
